Biographical Information[edit]

Sam Boermans has played for the Belgian national team, as did his father Oswald Boermans and uncle Michel Boermans.

Boermans debuted in Belgium's First Division in 2009, going 2 for 14 with two walks for the Borgerhout Squirrels. In the 2009 European Junior Championship, he hit .333/.333/.467 for Belgium. After not playing in the First Division in 2010, he hit .291/.389/.426 with 29 runs in 35 games. He fielded only .859 as an infielder and allowed 10 runs (3 earned) and 10 walks in 12 1/3 innings as a pitcher. He tied for first in the league in triples, was 7th in hit-by-pitch (7), was third in strikeouts (35) and was second in errors (22, trailing Jérôme Sana). He participated in the MLB European Academy that year. In the 2011 European Junior Championship, he batted .227/.346/.318 as an OF-SS.

With the 2012 Squirrels, Boermans produced at a .267/.313/.343 and fielded .988 at catcher. In the 2012 European Championship, he went 3 for 10 as a catcher for Belgium.
