Biographical Information[edit]

Oswald Boermans was a longtime player in the Belgian First Division. Boermans helped Belgium win Bronze Medals at the 1979 European Championship, 1983 European Championship and 1985 European Championship. In the latter event, he led all players with a .583 average. He played in the 1986 Amateur World Series. He had a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds in the 1980s, a rarity for a Belgian, but failed to win a contract. In 1990, he pitched the 8th inning of the World Amateur All-Star game in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

He hit .310/.459/.551 with 9 runs in 9 games in the 1993 European Championship and went 2-0 wit ha 5.40 ERA on the mound. The lone negative was his fielding as his .893 mark at 1B was easily last among qualifiers, Félix Cano being next-worst at .974. His six errors were more than the other seven teams' starting first basemen combined (4). On the bright side, he tied for second in the tourney in homers (2, even with Massimo Fochi, Edsel Martis and Arnaud Fau, one behind Marcel Joost), he was 5th in K rate (9.0 per 9 IP, between Mikael Aho and Klaus Knüttel), tied Joeri Loykens and Danny Wout for 9th in strikeouts (10), tied for first in wins (with Samuel Meurant, Massimiliano Masin, Rubén Garcia, Patrick Klerx, Geoffry Kohl and Aho) and 9th in slugging (between Olof Lindfors and Franck Didot).

The 33-year-old hit .297/.417/.459 in the 1995 European Championship with 10 runs and 12 RBI in 10 games as a 1B-DH. He tied Adonis Kemp for 6th in the event in RBI and was 5th with 9 walks. His brother Michel Boermans and Sam Boermans also played for Belgium.
