Biographical Information

Leonel Reina has played in Belgium.

Reina hit .231/.381/.264 for the K. Deurne Spartans in 2013 and the outfielder fielded .964. In 2014, he moved to the Mortsel Stars, batting .321/.402/.482 and fielding .969. In Belgium's high-scoring leagues, those numbers were in the middle of the pack for regulars. During 2015, he batted .352/.375/.434 for the Gent Knights with 29 steals without being caught in 30 games; he was third in the First Division in swipes.

In 2016, he was back with the Spartans and hit .304/?/.443 and played error-free defense (44 PO, 5 A) for the league champions. He tied for the league lead in triples, was 3rd in runs (one behind the co-leaders) and 3rd in steals. In the 2016 Federations Cup, he hit only .200/.231/.240 but had 6 RBI and 6 steals (in 6 tries) in 5 games and again played flawlessly in the field (18 PO, 1 A). He tied Jakub Hajtmar for 9th in the event in RBI and led in steals. For the 2017 season, he produced at a .331/.390/.414 clip for the Spartans, scoring 36 runs in 39 games and stealing 25 bases in 29 attempts. He had 65 putouts, 3 assists and no errors; only Steven De Lannoy had more error-free chances (72). He tied for 5th in the league in runs, tied De Lannoy and Lucas Rizzi for 3rd in hits (52), tied for 4th in sacrifice flies (7) and tied Rizzi for 3rd in steals.

The Cuban native starred for the Spartans in the 2017 Federations Cup (.588/.667/.765, 6 R, 5 RBI in 5 G). He was second in the event in average (behind De Lannoy), sixth in slugging, 2nd in OBP (behind De Lannoy), tied for 4th in doubles (3) and tied for 5th in steals (3). He was chosen for the Belgian national team for the 2018 Super6, the only non-native Belgian chosen apparently. In the opener, he started in center and hit 9th. He hit into a double play his first time up, against Lowuin Sacramento, but later singled.
