2017 Federations Cup

From BR Bullpen

The 2017 Federations Cup was the second Federations Cup. It was held from June 13 to June 18, 2017 in Valencia, Spain.

The Borgerhout Squirrels (Belgium) won to advance to the 2018 CEB Cup. In the finale, they beat the previously-unbeaten host Astros Valencia, 4-2. Kenny Vandenbranden was named MVP after throwing a complete game, 146-pitch effort to top Valencia. Steven de Lannoy led the tournament with a .762 average. Valencia's Yulman Ribeiro was named Best Pitcher but struggled in the finale (7 H, 3 R in 4 IP); former major leaguer Romulo Sánchez relieved and was sharper (9 K, 1 UER in 5 IP) but it was too late. Jean Acevedo and Michel Rodriguez each hit three homers in five games for Valencia.

Another Belgian squad, the Deurne Spartans, placed third. The Leksand Lumberjacks (Sweden), Athletics Attnang-Puchheim (Austria) and Buffaloes Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria) pulled up the rear and their countries were due to lose spots for the 2018 Federations Cup; Austria took one of the qualifiers, though, to maintain a spot. Slovakia and a second Spanish team won the other two qualifiers.
