2018 Federations Cup

From BR Bullpen

The 2018 Federations Cup was the third Federations Cup. It was held from June 11 to June 16, 2018 in Brasschaat, Belgium.

Last year's host and runner-up, the Astros Valencia (Spain), won the title, going 5-1. In the finale, they blew past the only team to beat them in the round-robin, crushing Sweden's Sölvesborg Firehawks 16-5. Yulman Ribeiro allowed two unearned runs in six after struggling in last year's finals to get the win. Eric Segura drove in 5, while Joel Johnson drove in 3 for the Firehawks. The MVP was Blake Ochoa, who hit .522/.714/.870 with 13 runs and 13 RBI in six games. Sandel Cuevas (.636 in the round-robin phase) was named Best Hitter. Artuur Driessens (1.00) of the host Brasschaat Braves (third-place at 4-1) was names Best Pitcher.

The Athletics Attnang-Puchheim (Austria) finished 4th (2-3) followed by 1-4 Vindija Varazdin (Croatia) and 0-5 Apollo Bratislava (Slovakia). The two countries thus lost their spots for the 2019 Federations Cup (Croatia would retain a spot after their entry in the 2018 CEB Cup finished last). Replacing Slovakia and champion Spain (which moved up to the 2019 CEB Cup) were Switzerland and a second Austrian entry, as they won the Federations Cup Qualifiers.
