Biographical Information[edit]

Gabriel Rincones Jr. was drafted in 2021 and has played on the Great Britain national team.

Rincones was born in Florida then moved to Venezuela to be closer to family. He picked up baseball there. His father got a job in the offshore oil industry when Gabriel Jr. was six years old and they moved to Scotland, where he got teased for playing baseball rather than cricket. [1] Right before starting high school, he moved to Tampa, where he attended a school that had produced many major leaguers such as Wade Boggs, having to adjust to yet another culture. [2] While a good hitter back in Scotland, he did not have the skills to compete at that level yet and was cut. [3] He kept on working on his abilities to compete at the US level.

It certainly paid off, as he hit .432/.491/.695 with 28 RBI in 24 games in 2021. [4] The San Diego Padres took him in the 19th round of the 2021 amateur draft. Before starting his pro career, he played for the Great Britain squad in the 2021 European Championship. Batting second and playing DH in their opener, he struck out his first at-bat, versus France's Owen Ozanich. He walked the next time and came around to score. He had 3 of their 4 hits versus Israel and 3 hits versus the champion Dutch national team. In the 9th inning against Belgium, with the game 11-11, he ground into a force to drive in Zachary Stroman with the winner. He finished at .259/.300/.370 with six runs and four RBI in six games. He tied Aaron Singh for the team lead in runs and was second on the team with three doubles, two behind Singh. He tied for 8th in the Euros in doubles. [5]
