Biographical Information[edit]

Viacheslav Vasilyev has played in Russia and the US.

He pitched 2 2/3 IP in the 2005 European Championship (6 H, 5 BB, 7 R, 6 ER); his 20.25 ERA was easily Russia's highest (Valentin Aleksandrov was next at 5.19). As a part-time outfielder, though, the 20-year-old was 3 for 7 with a double and a triple, outdoing Russia's starters in average, slugging and OBP. He was one of Russia's best players in the 2007 European Championship. He hit .529/.500/.706 with 5 runs and 4 RBI in 4 games. He was less effective on the mound, walking 9 in 9 innings and going 0-1. He gave up 6 runs, only 2 of them officially earned. He was MVP of the Russian Baseball League that year. In the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, he was 1 for 10 with two walks and allowed 2 runs in two innings as Russia failed to earn a spot in the 2009 European Championship. In 2008, Vasilyev agreed in principle to a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers but never officially signed a deal before returning to Moscow to finish college. In 2009, he signed with the Rockford RiverHawks. He tossed 2/3 of a shutout inning in his US debut, fanning one.
