Soviet Union
(Redirected from USSR)
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, abbreviated USSR, more commonly known as the Soviet Union was a state that existed from 1922 to 1991 when it was dissolved into 15 separate independent states, including the main successor state, Russia. Baseball was not permitted for much of the Soviet era, seen as an American imperialist sport, despite its success in other Communist countries like Cuba. With Glasnost, the USSR fielded a team in the 1990 Goodwill Games and 1991 European Championship.
Armenia, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan and Ukraine were all also part of the Soviet Union.
