Belarus

Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. Once part of the USSR, the country declared independence in 1991. As of 2008, the population was estimated at 9,689,800. Alex Lukashevich was the first minor leaguer from the Belarus. Lou Niss was born in the country's future capital, Minsk, when it was still part of the Russian Empire.
