Biographical Information

Alexander Krupenchenkov was the center fielder on the first USSR team to visit the US; a 1988 Washington Post article said he looked more at home in the field than his teammates, looking like a typical American player. He was on the USSR national team in the 1990 Goodwill Games and the Chicago Tribune again compared him favorably to his teammates, saying he had a million-ruble arm in right field. He hit .250/.296/.333 with four RBI in eight games for the USSR in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, fielding .917 in right. Only Leonid Korneev had more doubles for the Soviets and he tied Korneev and Evgeny Puchkov for the most RBI on the squad. He coached for the Russian national team in the 1993 European Championship.
