Biographical Information[edit]

Sergey Solovev has played several times for the Russian national team.

Solovev debuted for Russia in the 1999 European Championship, going 0 for 5 as the backup catcher behind Andrei Selivanov. In the 2001 European Championship, the 20-year-old went 0 for 4 as Selivanov's sub. He was Russia's main catcher in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, hitting .143/.333/.286 and allowing 15 steals in 17 tries. He had 6 passed balls in five games. He went 2 for 12 with 3 walks in the 2003 European Championship. In the 2005 European Championship, he hit .333/.385/.333 while sharing the catching with Sergey Karmushov.

Solovev was still only 26 by the time of the 2007 European Championship. He was 1 for 9 with a walk and allowed 4 steals in 5 tries, splitting catching duties with Sergey Zharov. In the 2011 European Cup, he was 4 for 20 with a walk and a run for the North Stars Moscow, now playing first base. He was back with Russia for the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers, going 3 for 4 with 4 RBI in their opening win over rival Ukraine.
