Biographical Information[edit]

Nick Lobanov was a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins system who has been on the Russian national team. He is not related to fellow Twins farmhand Andrei Lobanov.

Lobanov pitched the most innings for Russia in the 2007 European Championship (10 1/3). He allowed two runs in 5 1/3 against the Silver Medal winners, Great Britain, in a fine relief stint. Against the Italian national team, he was much flatter, allowing 11 hits and five runs in five innings for the loss.

Lobanov made his US debut the same year, allowing 4 hits, a walk and no runs in three innings for the GCL Twins while striking out two. He was one of four Europeans on the staff, joining Dutchman Tom Stuifbergen, German Rodney Gessmann and Czech Jakub Toufar. He tossed 3 shutout innings for the GCL Twins in 2007.

In 2008, Nick gave up 8 walks and 9 runs in 10 1/3 IP for the GCL Twins; he was not even the best Moscow-born Russian pitcher on the team named Lobabov, as that was Andrei Lobanov. The Twins released him in 2009, then he signed with the Atlanta Braves for 2011.
