Andrei Lobanoi began his professional career in 2008. He is no relation to fellow Twins farmhand and Muscovite Nick Lobanov.
Lobanov was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in the 2007 European Championship; he took the loss against the Ukraine, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and a run in 1 2/3 innings of relief. He made his US debut with the 2008 GCL Twins, going 2 1/3 innings and allowing 4 hits and 2 runs on June 20 against the GCL Orioles. He struck out one and walked none. Lobanov had a good first year for the GCL Twins (3-1, 3.54) and Fort Myers Miracle (2 shutout innings).
Back with the GCL Twins for 2009, Lobanov struck out 35 and walked one in 22 innings and went 2-1 with 7 saves and a 0.82 ERA.
