Biographical Information[edit]

Sergey Korolev was a long-time catcher in Russia.

Korolev had been an engineer before quitting to play baseball. He played for the Moscow Red Devils, SKV and RusStar in the Russian League, perhaps other teams as well. He was still active as of 2001 when he was one of the league's oldest players. He was on the USSR national team in the 1990 Goodwill Games. In the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, he was 2 for 11 with and a walk and five strikeouts. He splitting catching with Vitali Romanov and Vadim Kulakov. He had 5 passed balls and allowed 13 steals in 13 tries. He hit .296/.387/.407 with five runs in eight games, fielding .950. He tied for second on the team in runs, behind Sergei Gigalov. In the 1995 European Championship, he was on the Russian national team roster but did not get into a game as Alexey Golubev and Andrey Artamonov did the catching.
