Biographical Information[edit]

Andrey Artamonov was on the Russian national team.

His father was a hockey player and he wanted to follow suit, but Soviet authorities brought him and other talented athletes together to form the first USSR national team. [1] He got to meet President Reagan when the team visited the US. [2] He was 2 for 7 with a double, walk and a RBI in the 1993 European Championship, handling 20 putouts while backing up Sergei Korolev at catcher; only Alexander Vidjaev and Korolev had better averages for Russia. [3] During the 1995 European Championship, he backed up Alexey Golubev at catcher, going 1 for 9 with a walk, two runs and a RBI, with 29 putouts, 2 assists and no errors. In that year's Euros, only Luigi Carrozza and Jamel Boutagra had more chances and no errors by a catcher. [4] He later was a successful coach with RusStar in the Russian League. [5]
