Biographical Information[edit]
Alex Crosby has played in the independent leagues and for the Great Britain national team. His cousin Jon Jones has played in the US and Mexico. [1]
Crosby hit .268/.329/.336 as a college junior after transferring from Solano Junior College. [2] He improved to .365/.407/.514 as a senior. [3] He signed with the Gary SouthShore RailCats out of college and was 6 for 30 with 3 doubles his first year. In 2016, he became their starting first baseman, fielding .996 there and hitting .293/.356/.363. He remained steady in 2017 (.291/.354/.369, .996). He slumped to .249/.320/.338 in 2018 and was 2 for 14 in the postseason but fielded .999 to set an [{American Association (21st Century)|American Association]] record at 1B. He also led the league's first basemen in putouts (619) and assists (83). [4]
Gary's longest-tenured player at the time, he batted .241/.316/.332 in 2019, fielding .998 at first. He then joined Britain for the 2019 European Championship; he was not the only player from Gary on the team as Will Savage was there as well. He had 3 hits and 3 runs in a rout of Sweden and homered off Tobias Kiefer for their lone run against Austria. For the event, he hit .207/.303/.310 and made a rare error (fielding .984). He did score 6 runs, one shy of team leader Savage. He turned nine double plays to tie Curt Smith for the tournament lead. [5]
