Biographical Information[edit]

Will Savage has played in the minors and for the British national team.

Savage was born in London but his family moved to the US when he was a year old; his mother was from Singapore, hence his Asian middle name. [1] He was All-league in baseball and basketball in high school. [2] He hit .320/.386/.405 as a college freshman and was 14-for-16 in steals. He was Ivy League Rookie of the Year and All-Ivy League. <re> Ivy League </ref>

In 2015, he produced at a .302/.406/.395 clip. He played summer ball with the La Crosse Loggers, batting .332/.424/.389. He stole 20 bases in 23 tries. He was among the Northwoods League leaders in average, OBP and steals. [3] That fall, he hit .367/.463/.487 for Columbia and stole 20 more bases (caught 5 times). He was second-team All-Ivy League at second base behind Danny Hoy. [4] He led the league in steals, average and OBP.

Savage was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the 16th round of the 2016 amateur draft, one round after John Schreiber; the scout was Jim Bretz. [5] He debuted as a pro with the Connecticut Tigers, hitting .200/.304/.251 but showing excellent speed (15 SB, 1 CS). He tied Dom Thompson-Williams for 10th in the New York-Penn League in swipes. He split 2017 between Connecticut (.222/.280/.232 in 30 G) and the West Michigan Whitecaps (.215/.292/.278 in 25 G).

In 2018, he was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays but never played a game in their system before being let go. [6] He moved to the independent leagues and hit .309/.384/.397 for the Gary SouthShore RailCats as a productive utility man. He fell to .236/.345/.285 for Gary in '19.

The London native was with Britain for the 2019 European Championship, alongside Gary teammate Alex Crosby. He had 3 runs and 3 hits in a win over Sweden, including a leadoff homer off Per Sjörs. He finished the event at .370/.469/.556 with 7 runs in 7 games but fielded only .892. He led Britain in runs (one ahead of Crosby) and was second to Jordan Serena in average, OBP and slugging. For the event, he tied for 8th in runs and tied for 1st in errors (4). [7]
