Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams was a 5th-round draft pick by the New York Yankees in the 2016 amateur draft, out of the University of South Carolina. Two years earlier, in 2014, he had been taken in the 19th round by the St. Louis Cardinals coming out of community college, but he had not signed.

He began his professional career in 2016 with the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League, where he hit .246/.348/.244 in 56 games, scoring 30 runs and stealing 15 bases. In 2017, he split his season between two teams, Staten Island and the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League, hitting a combined .244/.332.326 in 64 games. He then took a big step forward in 2018 as his batting line was a solid .299/.363/.546 in 100 games, with 17 doubles, 22 homers, 63 runs and 74 RBIs. He again split his season between two teams, starting off with Charleston before earning a promotion to the Tampa Tarpons of the Florida State League after hitting a scorching .378 in his first 10 games. He led all of the Yankees' minor league hitters in homers that year. He also played for the AA Trenton Thunder in the Eastern League playoffs. On November 19th, he as one of three prospects traded to the Seattle Mariners for P James Paxton, alongside Ps Justus Sheffield and Erik Swanson.
