Games[edit]
August 3[edit]
- United Kingdom 27, Czech Republic 11. The Brits have a fine debut, scoring 27 runs - they only had 8 hits but drew 22 walks - in a five-inning mercy rule win. 2B Laura Hirai scored six runs, P/RF Claury Scatliffe drove in five and CF Gabriella Sassoli had four walks, four runs and four RBI. Oona Ylinen got their first win, while Kateřina Maříková took the loss. RF Kateřina Popelková had the lone Czech hit as they take advantage of 7 British errors and 13 walks.
- France 6, Netherlands 5. The French, after going 5-0 in the first European Women's Championship, got a scare before triumphing. Camille Foucher, their 2019 ace, allowed 5 runs in 4 innings (1B Anouk Vergunst driving in 3) before Cassandra Vigneau and Emma Patry turned in three shutout, hitless innings of relief. Merle Langevoord goes the distance and it is 5-5 entering the bottom of the 7th. With one out, Patry drew a walk then 2B Yasmine Derbal singled and an error on the play by 3B Magali De Rooy scores Patry with her third run, the winner.
August 4[edit]
- Netherlands 12, United Kingdom 2. Britain's second game is not nearly as good as their first as they get no-hit by Zoë Lageweg, Ciska Welboren and Simone Willemse. The game again features many more walks (20) than hits (6). LF Cherise Stravers scores three runs, while 1B Anouk Vergunst again drives in three. Laura Hirai takes the loss. Britain's runs are scored by 3B Darier Malone and LF Claury Scatliffe.
- Czech Republic 11, France 9. The Czechs, 0-5 in their history and fresh off a game in which they walked 22 and had one hit, defeated France, which had been 6-0 in their history in a major upset. The Czechs scored six in the first in chasing Ambre Brouard with only one out and built a 8-0 lead after 3 before France almost came back. Kristýna El Ghannam saved Tereza Šustrová's win as the Czechs cut their walks issued from 22 to 3. RF Kateřina Popelková had two runs and two RBI to pace the offense. For France, LF Angélique Andre had three hits.
August 5[edit]
- Czech Republic 24, Netherlands 9. With all four teams at 1-1 going into today, the winners of the last round-robin games would go on to the finals. A day after their first win ever, the Czech ladies get an even bigger win. SS Kristýna El Ghannam (4 H) and 1B Petra Kolkusová each score four times while Karolína Blažková gets the win by pitching shutout ball over the final three innings. A day after taking part in a no-hitter, Ciska Welboren is the losing hurler, one of six Dutch pitchers who fails to stop the Czech offense. DH/RF Kim Schindeler has two runs and two RBI for the Orange.
- France 13, United Kingdom 12. The hosts nearly get upset again, as Leonie Pauthe allows eight runs in two innings and Britain leads 12-6 after 5 when starter Claury Scatliffe exits. The bullpen blows it, though, allowing six in the bottom of the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th, CF Emma Patry is hit by a pitch from Dora Lau then steals and takes third on a throwing error by the catcher on the play. 3B Marjorie Brunel (the 2019 tourney MVP) walks and C Yasmine Derbal is intentionally walked. SS Léna Sellam then singles to drive in Patry with Patry's third run. Coralie Guillemin gets the win after pitching a shutout top of the 7th. For Britain, 1B Amy Trask has 3 hits and 4 RBI while 2B/3B Laura Hirai scores three times.
August 6[edit]
- France 13, Czech Republic 3. France easily avenged their loss from two days prior to retain the title. Cassandra Vigneau went the distance in a five-inning mercy rule win, with a balanced offense led by tourney MVP DH Coralie Guillemin (2 for 2, 2 BB, 3B, 2 R, RBI). Tereza Stejspalová took the loss.
