Biographical Information[edit]
Ciska Welboren has played regularly for the Dutch women's national team.
She debuted in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup, allowing 10 runs (6 earned) in 1 1/3 IP in a loss to the US and Marti Sementelli. She had a 23.33 ERA in three outings in the Cup, finishing second in runs allowed (17, 4 behind Yee-Wan Lam) and 4th in earned runs (10). [1] She allowed three runs (two earned) in five innings in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup. [2] The only southpaw on the Dutch staff in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, she allowed six hits, seven walks and eight runs (six earned) in 2 2/3 IP. [3]
In the 2019 European Women's Championship (the first European Women's Championship), she lost to eventual champion France. In three games, she allowed six runs (four earned) in three innings. She tied Tereza Švingrová and Alena Langová for the most games pitched in the first round (where she made all her appearances). [4] Her first game in the 2022 European Women's Championship went very well; relieving Zoë Lageweg in the third with a 3-2 lead over Great Britain, she came in with the bases loaded and two outs but a no-hitter in progress. She retired Kelly Wright to end the inning. In the 4th, she went 1-2-3 against Amy Trask, Caitlin Frank and Marianna Casal. She made an error on a Rebecca Cottrell grounder but picked her off then retired Darier Malone on a liner. Simone Willemse took over and wrapped up the no-hitter, the first by the Dutch women's team (the Dutch men had several, most notably by Shairon Martis in the World Baseball Classic. [5]
