Biographical Information[edit]

Léna Sellam has been on the French women's national team.

When France first formed a team, for the 2019 European Women's Championship, the 17-year-old not only made the squad but was their starter at second base. Not only that, she was their leadoff hitter, thus becoming the first batter in European Women's Championship history when she stepped in against Loes Asmus of the Netherlands, a veteran of five Women's Baseball World Cups. The newcomer greeted the veteran with a single, thus becoming the first player to get a hit in a European Women's Championship as well. She finished the first round at .615/.722/.846 with six RBI in four games, fielding .941. She was second in average (.085 behind teammate Raina Hunter), second in slugging (.054 behind MVP Marjorie Brunel), 5th in OBP (between Vendula Nesvadbová and Rosie Lyard), tied for first in hits (8, even with Anouk Vergunst), 5th in RBI, tied Vergunst for first in total bases (11) and tied Sofie van de Wiel for third in assists (8). In the title game, she batted second and started at catcher (later moving to short). She was 0 for 1 against Asmus but walked twice and scored twice in France's 5-2 win as they won the first European women's title. [1] France won a spot in the 2020 Women's Baseball World Cup but the event was delayed then canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sellam had a busy year in 2019. In addition to the inaugural European Women's Baseball Championship, she played for France in the European Softball Championship and European/African Softball Olympic Qualifier. [2] She represented France in the continental softball championships in both 2021 and 2022. [3] At this period, she was also playing college softball in the US. In the 2022 European Women's Championship, she started at short for France and did not fare as well as in 2019. She was 2 for 13 with two walks, a steal, two runs and three RBI while fielding .938. One of her two hits was a biggie. With France facing elimination against Great Britain, she drove in the game-winner by singling off Dora Lau to score Emma Patry. She did finish second in the event with ten assists, one behind Darier Malone. [4]
