Biographical Information[edit]
Karolína Blažková has played for the Czech women's national team.
She debuted at age 16 and was given a key role, starting their opener on the mound against Great Britain. The day did not go well as she began by walking Laura Hirai, hitting Dora Lau and walking Darier Malone and Claury Scatliffe to make it 1-0. Antonia Richardson reached on a run-scoring fielder's choice before she got her first out, striking out Marianna Casal. Her first time up, she drew a walk from Scatliffe and came around to score. Kateřina Maříková took over on the mound in the 3rd with two on, one out and a 4-4 tie; both runners scored as Blažková took the loss. She had allowed no hits but had walked nine and given up six runs (five earned) while fanning two. She stayed in to play second base. Two days later, she came up much better for the Czechs. Starting at 2B, she doubled and hit a 3-run homer (off Anouk Vergunst), plus relieved Miluška Šprdlíková in the 4th and pitched three hitless, scoreless innings (2 BB, 5 K) as the Czechs rallied to win. Her victory got the team to the title game of the European Women's Championship for the first time; she also had the first homer in a European Women's Championship. She was 1 for 2 with a walk in the title game loss to France. She finished the tourney at .364/.588/.727 with six runs, six walks, three RBI and four steals in five tries on offense, a 1-1, 6.56 record on the hill (0 H, 11 BB, 7 K in 5 1/3 IP) and a .857 fielding percentage between 2B, SS and P. She was among the leaders in numerous areas: runs (tied for 6th with Lau and Tereza Stejspalová), hits (4, tied for 4th), homers (tied Emma Patry for first), total bases (tied Kristýna El Ghannam for second, two behind Patry), walks (tied Gabriella Sassoli and Malone for first), steals (tied for 2nd, one behind Wendy Bladt), slugging (2nd, .052 behind Patry), OPS (2nd, 185 behind Vergunst), ERA (7th), games pitched (tied for 2nd, one behind Cassandra Vigneau), lowest opponent average (1st), walks issued (1st, one more than Kirstie Wright), strikeouts (7, 3rd, 2 behind Scatliffe and Camille Foucher) and assists (5, tied for 5th).
