The 2002 International League season was the 117th in the league's history, and ended with the Durham Bulls winning their first Governors' Cup.
This would be the final season for the Rochester Red Wings and Baltimore Orioles' partnership. The 42-year affiliation was the longest in Triple-A baseball.
