Biographical information

Outfielder Tim Leiper hit .273 over twelve minor league seasons, mostly in the Detroit Tigers chain. He was both a left-handed hitter and a switch-hitter as player, depending on the season.

He spent several seasons as a coach in the minors, including the 1996 Binghamton Mets (for whom he played in six games), 1997 Capital City Bombers (until June), 1998 Harrisburg Senators, and 1999 Ottawa Lynx. He has been a minor league manager since 2000.

Leiper was also a coach for the Canadian team in the 2003 Olympic Qualifier, the 2004 Olympics, the World Baseball Classic in 2006, 2009 and 2013, the 2009 Baseball World Cup, 2011 Baseball World Cup (when Canada won their first Medal in a Baseball World Cup), the 2010 Pan American Games Qualification Tournament, and the 2011 Pan American Games (when Canada won their first Gold in a Pan American Games).

In 2013, he joined the Toronto Blue Jays as a senior adviser in the area of player development. He was named the team's first base coach in 2014 and stayed until the end of the 2018 season. He returned to the Canadian national team as a coach at the 2023 World Baseball Classic. In 2024, he was named third base coach, infield coach and baserunning coordinator for the San Diego Padres.

He is the brother of former Major League pitcher Dave Leiper.
