Biographical Information

Nick Punto was the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter for the Italian national baseball team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Punto became a side note in a one the biggest trades in baseball history on August 25, 2012, when the Boston Red Sox sent him to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with three of the highest-paid players in the game: 1B Adrian Gonzalez, P Josh Beckett and OF Carl Crawford were due a combined $260 million in salary, while Punto was making a utility infielder's wages at the time. He spent the remainder of 2012 and all of 2013 with the Dodgers before signing a one-year deal with the Oakland Athletics on November 13, 2013.

Punto spent the [[2014 Athletics|2014] season with the Athletics, hitting .207 in 73 games as a back-up infielder. He was slowed down by a hamstring injury and went 0 for 2 in the Wild Card Game against the Kansas City Royals. That turned out to be his final major league appearance as the A's released him on December 19th in order to make room on their roster following a number of trades and he did not sign with another team after that.
