Utility infielder
A utility infielder is a substitute player who can be used at more than one infield position, and usually as a second baseman, shortstop and third baseman. Utility infielders are usually weak hitters who survive because of their fielding ability. They are useful members of a roster as they allow a manager to replace a number of different players on the team to either give them a rest, or because of in-game strategy.
