Biographical Information[edit]
Despite never playing professional baseball, Carlos Tosca has had a long career as a coach and manager in the minors and majors.
After spending time as a high school coach, Tosca joined the New York Yankees organization as a minor league coach in 1978. Two years later, he got his first managerial opportunity as skipper of the GCL Yankees. After several years with the Yankees, he spent time managing in the Kansas City Royals and Florida Marlins organizations. He joined the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks coaching staff in their inaugural campaign of 1998 and spent three seasons with the club. After spending 2001 managing in the Atlanta Braves system, Tosca joined the Toronto Blue Jays staff in 2002 and replaced Buck Martinez as the club's manager in midseason. He spent more than two seasons as the Jays skipper.
In 2005, Tosca returned to the Diamondbacks as third base coach, and after two seasons there, he became the bench coach of the Marlins. He was fired from the position on June 23, 2010, along with manager Fredi Gonzalez and hitting coach Jim Presley. However, he followed Gonzalez to Atlnata as Fredi became the Braves' manager, succeeding Bobby Cox, in 2011, being named the team's bench coach. When Gonzalez was fired on May 17, 2016, Tosca was also let go.
