The 2002 Hoofdklasse season was dominated by DOOR Neptunus, as they went unbeaten in the playoffs (6-0) to win their fourth straight Hoofdklasse championship. It was the first Holland Series sweep since 1991.

In an unusual move Neptunus never named a manager for this season, instead going with a three-man coaching staff who shared the responsibilities equally.

Maxime Leblanc became the first French player in the league's history.
