Biographical Information[edit]
Jan Naterop has pitched in the Hoofdklasse.
Naterop was with the Neptunus farm club in 1995-1997. He joined the Twins in 1998 and made his Hoofdklasse debut with them; he spent 1998-1999 with that club. Naterop switched to Sparta/Feyenoord in 2000. He finished among the league leaders in 2002 in ERA (2.78, 4th), innings (71 1/3, 1st), wins (5-3, tied for 3rd), strikeouts (55, 2nd to Hiroaki Fujiwara) and complete games (4, tied for 2nd).
Naterop fanned 51 in 2003, tying Samuel Meurant for 8th in the circuit. He moved to Neptunus in 2004 and saved four games as a setup man for Tom Becker. In 2005, he went 3-3 with two saves and a 2.97 ERA in 27 games. He tossed a shutout inning in the Holland Series. Jan also pitched in the 2005 European Championship, going 2-0 with 3 1/3 shutout innings for the champions.
Naterop had a 3-2, 4 save, 2.62 record in 23 outings for Neptunus in 2006. Jan allowed only 11 hits and 4 runs (all unearned) in 17 2/3 innings in 2007; he was 2-0 with four saves. He has not pitched since (through July 2009).
