History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
On July 2nd, the 2022 St. Louis Cardinals became the first team to hit four consecutive homers in the 1st inning, with Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez and Dylan Carlson all going deep against Kyle Gibson of the Philadelphia Phillies. It was only the 11th time in major league history that a team had hit four consecutive long balls, and this had never been accomplished by the Cardinals. Still, it took another homer by Arenado, this one in the 9th, for the Cardinals to end up 7-6 winners in the game. This came one day after Arenado had been the first Cardinals player since Mark Grudzielanek in 2005 to hit for the cycle - but this had come in a losing cause, a 5-3 loss against the same Phillies.
