History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

Before the season, the 1982 Chicago White Sox acquired leftfielder Steve Kemp from the Detroit Tigers for Chet Lemon and got first baseman Tom Paciorek from the Seattle Mariners for three players. Snow and bad weather delayed the start of the 1982 season, but when Opening Day finally rolled around, the Sox started off strong, winning their first eight games of the season. The club had a share of first place up until May 26th, but a sub-.500 June and July spoiled the team's chances for the postseason.

In addition to catcher Carlton Fisk, who again started the All-Star Game, the White Sox offense was powered by Paciorek, who batted .312, rightfielder Harold Baines, who hit 25 homers and drove in 105 runs, and designated hitter Greg Luzinski, who clubbed 18 home runs and notched 102 RBIs. Meanwhile, on the mound, LaMarr Hoyt joined the rotation and won 19 games, and rookie Salome Barojas became the team's closer and saved 21.
