History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

After finishing in last place in 1989, the 1990 Chicago White Sox improved significantly and surprisingly finished in second place. The offense was led by 42-year-old veteran catcher Carlton Fisk and rookie first baseman Frank Thomas, who hit .330 with seven homers in just 60 games after being called up from the minors. The pitching staff was anchored by youngster Jack McDowell, who won 14 games. Closer Bobby Thigpen set a major league record with 57 saves.
