From BR Bullpen

1) I only wrote the county if I didn't know the municipality. It's like when we have a US player listed as being born in Pennsylvania or Berkeley County, SC when we're missing more specific information.

2) Thanks for expanding the Taoyuan Municipal Ping-Jen Senior High School listing. You can add that info to a player's bio, between college attended (if relevant) and birthdate/birthplace.

- Mischa (talk) 11:02, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Regarding your Q on names of places: We often use the name that was in place when the person was born. Ex. Matěj Hejma is listed as being born in Czechoslovakia while Jiří Vavruša (also born in Prague) is listed as Czech Republic because the division of Czechoslovakia took place between their births. So use the entity that existed at the time of their birth. The article on the place can mention the changes. So our article on Allegheny, PA mentions that it is now part of Pittsburgh, PA.

Regarding inconsistency about how we use townships in Taiwan - that is probably my error. I don't know Taiwanese geography so I figured a township was like a township in the US (a separate municipality) while a district was like a neighborhood in a US city (not a separate municipality). The distinction should be on whether it's self-governing, I would think - Mischa (talk) 13:28, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

1) Regarding the English proficiency - don't worry. We're glad to have you add the bios. It's much quicker for us to edit a bio for a few language issues than having to write one from scratch! One minute versus 10-30 minutes for an average detailed bio 2) About how to list players. We usually go with the highest level they played at. So someone who played in the majors (ex. Fu-Te Ni) gets labeled just as pitcher. If someone played in the Central or Pacific League in Japan (ex. Ming-Tsu Lu), then NPB outfielder (or pitcher or whatever). KBO is below NPB but above the CPBL. CPBL vs. minor leagues is a tough call; we haven't been consistent with that one. I think generally I've gone with minor league catcher for someone like Jin-De Jhang. My guess is CPBL is above the lowest minors but below the higher minors. Minor league player outranks the European leagues or Cuba in our rankings. Within Europe, you have some tough calls as well - if someone like Jan Tomek played in the German Bundesliga and Czech Extraliga, which gets listed? I hope that clarifies things. - Mischa (talk) 14:31, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Feel free to take photos of players at the WBC and post them here. Some users have done so in the past. Ex. Philippe went to the 2015 European Cup and added photos of players like Joe Mazzuca and Francesco Imperiali, while User:Just me has submitted photos from minor league games he's gone to - ex. Luis Jimenez (jimenlu01) or Patrick Kivlehan. No pressure - I'm not good at photos when I go to games. Just letting you about the option. - Mischa (talk) 15:05, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Another pointer on categories:

If a player only played in the minor leagues of that country, they don't get the category tag. So for instance, Don Nomura only played in the Japanese minors so he isn't listed under Nippon Pro Baseball Players; he's still notable as an agent/scout though. Han Lin only played in the CPBL minors so isn't listed under CPBL Players but he's still notable as he played for Taiwan (many times) - Mischa (talk) 22:01, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Since you made it to at least one of the WBC games, I was not prioritizing Taiwan's contests as I try to catch up on recaps since you might have more to add. If you don't get a chance, I'll go back and get them as time allows. - Mischa (talk) 13:53, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks; I will work on the English when I have a chance (still catching up some of the other game write-ups). Do you want to tackle a page for WBC umpire Chen-Jung Chang? My experience is that information on umpires outside the US or Japan is sometimes hard to come by for someone who speaks primarily English. - Mischa (talk) 22:52, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Nice chart on the Best Ten winners. I'm not good with charts and it looks much nicer this way. - Mischa (talk) 12:10, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

I will update for Tsung-Che Chung when I have time. He played in Colombia in the winter of 2021-2022 and Puerto Rico this past winter. - Mischa (talk) 15:45, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Great work on all the additions. Your English is much better than any of my non-primary languages; I only have to fix occasional grammatical usages. - Mischa (talk) 15:33, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

I'll second that. Nice work on the NPB MVP voting. Jeff (talk) 00:45, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Re: finding international game stats - I have records of the Baseball Worlds Cup from 1988-2011 and Intercontinental Cups from 1991-2010 (not sure if I have 2006) plus other assorted things saved. Let me know what you could use. - Mischa (talk) 12:17, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Looks like you added the CPBL Coaches category to a number of pages today. But none of the biographies were updated to include the information about where or when they were coaches in the CPBL. This is useful information which should be added. Jeff (talk) 01:49, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

  • My copy of the 1994 BWC stats does show Wen-Bin Chen as playing DH once and pinch-hitting twice, not being used at catcher. They're from the old IBAF site, which was pretty accurate I think.
  • Re: the rosters for other Baseball World Cups - I've been adding them gradually over years now, since 2018. If you want to wait, I'll keep adding a few a year, but if you want to tackle them, I can send you the information I have. I will note that I've had to catch some typos and have likely missed some (I know you've fixed some of the Taiwan ones) - Mischa (talk) 16:16, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, I had Korean data but I can't read Korean. The English data helped a lot.

Glad to help . -Mischa (talk) 16:40, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Great job on all the Taiwan NT player bios! - Mischa (talk) 19:33, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Did you get the 2013 East Asian Games Taiwan players? We don't have a roster page for that event. - Mischa (talk) 16:20, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

They're working on the site. I sure hope it gets fixed soon! - Mischa (talk) 16:27, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

I just want to thank you for all the great work you're doing. It's really appreciated and is helping to fill some big holes on the site. Philippe (talk) 19:38, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Regarding fixing BR register names or adding TML data, that's a question for Sean Forman; we don't have direct ability to edit the Register pages and have to contact them.

The guy who made all the early Japanese Baseball yearly pages put them as stubs, probably because they needed yearly summaries. If you want to update the more recent ones to include things like student baseball results, that'd be great. - Mischa (talk) 17:17, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the Japanese high school corrections. - Mischa (talk) 19:50, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

I haven't heard back from Nick at S-R re: the site issue since his last fix, unfortunately. I think adding Koshien titles to HS pages is a great idea. - Mischa (talk) 23:06, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Great job with the demographic info for all the NPB/JNT players to date! Also, for adding in categories or links that did not exist when those pages were first created. - Mischa (talk) 16:59, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Working on a bio of Akalanka Ranasinghe. I found he won the "得分王" in the 2015 East Asia Baseball Cup. What does that mean? - Mischa (talk) 16:33, 14 July 2023 (UTC)

Lead the tournament in runs scored - Rugosa1134 (talk) 02:36, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

Nice to see someone fill in stubs. Seems like they hang around for years longer than red links do - Mischa (talk) 15:45, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Because the career listings I have found only go to 2011. See here. Feel free to update to more recent stats! - Mischa (talk) 16:04, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

It doesn't have to be top-20. I've listed guys on other pages who weren't top-20 - ex. Dolf Luque lists things in the top 150 while Sachio Kinugasa lists top-100. - Mischa (talk) 16:11, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

Whoops! Didn't see the Yamada bio was in progress when I began editing it. Also, which Taoyuan is in the 2023 Little League World Series? Taoyuan City or Taoyuan County? - Mischa (talk) 13:25, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

I will be offline Saturday and Sunday if you want to put in the game results for this year's Asian Games. If not, I can do it when I return. A few sentences is sufficient; we don't spend as much coverage as on a World Baseball Classic or Olympics. - Mischa (talk) 16:10, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

I'll be offline this weekend as well if you want to tackle the medal games - you can include more detail for those ones, if you want. - Mischa (talk) 14:08, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

  1. Thanks for tracking down the birthdates for the 2022 Asian Games! I'll slowly be adding those bios over the next year probably.
  2. If you want to do a more in-depth review of the 2023 Taiwan Series when the time comes, feel free to (like we've had for 2007 Japan Series-2022 Japan Series for instance). I've done briefer write-ups of the Taiwan Series simply because Google Translate and English-language Taiwanese sources are more limited than sources for NPB

- Mischa (talk) 16:49, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

You can hold off on the 2023 Taiwan Series page until the teams are determined; no rush - just reaching out. CPBL draft pages would be nice. However rounds you feel are appropriate. Maybe start with the first two rounds and then expand later if you feel the need? Or you could do first few rounds and then 'other notable selections' at the bottom of the page. - Mischa (talk) 19:09, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

If a player has played in the major leagues, the link goes to "BR page", not "BR register page". Jeff (talk) 05:40, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Didn't want redundancy - were you planning on doing the 2023 NPB awards' individual pages or did you want me to do so? Let me know. - Mischa (talk) 17:17, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Is the Taiwan Baseball Wiki down? I haven't been able to access it lately. - Mischa (talk) 14:13, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Yeah, the server was broken maybe two weeks ago, waiting for repairing. - Rugosa1134 (talk) 14:15, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of Namu; I will try to remember to use it in the future. Thanks for clarifying re: phases. - Mischa (talk) 20:46, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for updating the KBO Manager list. - Mischa (talk) 17:02, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

In case you're wondering, I haven't edited some of the CPBL All-Star because all the grammar was fine - I didn't ignore them. - Mischa (talk) 16:20, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Do you know exactly who Kyu-hwan Lee was? I'm quite confused as to why I couldn't find anything about him and was wondering the reason for the deletion of the page. There appears to be a photo of him on the article I found at what looks like it was taken shortly after he signed. Was he ever on the team even? One article says he was a rookie but I could find no stat pages for him. I also noticed a vague Wikipedia mention of him where his name was spelled "Lee-kyoo Hwan" on a page listing every player who died during their careers. Cody n Nelli (talk) 04:09, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the information though I believe he is still considered notable since he was signed to a team. Even if he didn't play a regular season game. He would go into Category:Signed Players https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Category:Signed_Players Cody n Nelli (talk) 04:29, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Yes, the KBO is considered a major league, thus being signed by the Doosan Bears would make him notable. To be considered a 'major league' by the notability standards here, a foreign league must be the highest level of professional baseball in its country to be considered a major league. Plus we have a page for Clay Dailey who was signed to a notable minor league team but died before he played a game for them in an era where minor league teams weren't directly affiliated with a MLB team. Cody n Nelli (talk) 05:08, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the leaderboard link! I will try to keep it in mind. - Mischa (talk) 13:22, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

I know you said Namu is a better source than the Korean Wikipedia but I find it harder to navigate on Google Translate so will still use the Korean Wikipedia on some pages. FYI in case you're wondering why I am taking that course. - Mischa (talk) 18:50, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Can you double-check the high school for Chikara Morinaka? I know BR Register is not great on Japanese high school names. - Mischa (talk) 13:19, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

If you dont mind me asking, what is your favorite CPBL team? The Goth Kids (talk) 16:59, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

I wasn't planning on making an article for the 2024 Global Baseball Games, but if you want to do so, they're notable enough IMO - https://www.wbsc.org/en/events/carnext-samurai-japan-series-2024-japan-vs-team-europe/schedule-and-results - Mischa (talk) 10:49, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

I still haven't seen the Taiwan Baseball Wiki back. I assume it has not found a new home and may be gone? - Mischa (talk) 13:36, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

To question 1: I would put in the missing birthplace tag in that case. To question 2: I have Solomko on my list of 'please look at this page' - usually, I get to those at some point. - Mischa (talk) 14:37, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

The East Asian Cup alone does not warrant a Hong Kong National Team Players category. Asian Games or Asian Championship would count. - Mischa (talk) 10:13, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Looks like Takashi Suzuki was missed during your NPB All-Star run; were you planning to get it? If not, I can tackle that one. - Mischa (talk) 10:00, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

Cho Sung Min[edit]

Hey Rugosa, I just saw your message. I have seen that story in a number of sources and a SABR member told me that was what happened when I asked about him back in 2019. I have not heard any other reports but I also have not looked much into the case so if there are multiple versions of the story, can you tell me and maybe I can look more into it? Or if you know for sure what the correct story is, by all means, correct me. The Goth Kids (talk) 14:53, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

I found an alleged transcript of this note that Cho supposedly wrote. I don't know if its verified or not but supposedly it read as follows: to his mother he wrote: "It looks like there is no way for me to live in Korea anymore. I am very sorry, but please think that you never had a son." To Park (his girlfriend), he left the words, "My heart breaks that we can't be together in the final moments of my life. Thank you for everything. Hang tough even after I am gone." The Goth Kids (talk) 15:00, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

I hope you are fine after this morning's major earthquake. I immediately thought about when I heard the news. Philippe (talk) 13:09, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Wonderful news re: the Taiwan Baseball Wiki. Thanks for sharing. - Mischa (talk) 09:40, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

I seen that you reverted the edit about Fu-Te Ni becoming a coach for some league and I noticed it is on his wikipedia page, with this article as a source. https://sports.ltn.com.tw/news/breakingnews/3751622

I don't really understand it even with the translator because it just translated to broken sentences in english, and I can't really find much else about this team ever hiring him, though it does appear to be a real league. If wikipedia is incorrect with that then tell me so I can fix it on there. 𝕮𝖔𝖉𝖞 (talk) 14:41, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

I'm looking for a source for Akio Kanemitsu's correct birthplace for an upcoming SABR project. Last year, you edited his Bullpen page to say he was born in Jinan, but his B-R register page says Tokyo. Do you know where I can find more information? Thanks! Buckweaver (talk) 18:35, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Should the Japan Women's Baseball League be part of the 2010 in Japanese Baseball pages, etc. - Mischa (talk) 16:31, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

No real method to the settlement pages. I just try to relate whichever settlement I'm describing to a larger place to give an idea of where something is. Jeff (talk) 22:52, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

Exactly. The preference is to chose another city in the same state, although an exception can be made when a small town is close to the state border and there's a larger place right across that border. Philippe (talk) 14:30, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

I didn't check each player individually, but I'm guessing the Taiwanese and Japanese players in the 2024 Haarlem Baseball Week are not yet notable given their ages. If I'm incorrect, feel free to add links. I'm sure some will become notable in the future and we can link them then. - Mischa (talk) 22:53, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

I found some stuff you should delete[edit]

Since you appear to be the only other user who is awake at this time due to it being 3 AM for me, I found some random stuff that I think you should delete such as This nonsensical page redirect someone made as well as this old file I uploaded that turned out be be not the correct person. 𝕮𝖔𝖉𝖞 (talk) 07:17, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Designated pitcher pool[edit]

At one point, I think the idea was to add pitchers in the designated pitcher pool to their national team category, but in 2023, the discussion (forget which talk page it's on) seems to be not to include them. We should be consistent, which I don't think we've been. I think that a designated-pitcher-pool roster spot is like being on the 40-man roster, not enough to qualify you. - Mischa (talk) 15:44, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Why did you erase info from the Yutaka Enatsu page? Preparing to expand it or was it an error? - Mischa (talk) 16:02, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

A quick note - if you're not sure about a player's signing date, don't guess. A few times, you put in the year of their pro debut when they signed a year prior. - Mischa (talk) 10:21, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

While you're doing the 2015 Premier 12 missing players, we also have red links for some Taiwanese umps. - Mischa (talk) 20:06, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Tournament Brackets[edit]

I'm actually no html expert myself. I stole templates from wikipedia [[Category:Tournament Brackets|here]], which they no longer use as they have a bracket builder template of some sort that creates templates for them. Through trial and error, I've figured out how to modify some to fit my needs. If you have particular pages you want templates on, maybe we have something we can use. Maybe we use the 32 team and leave some blanks or something Jeff (talk) 13:01, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

I do have the 2002 World Junior Championship stats. Do you want me to send them to you? I keep meaning to get to this then not doing so. - Mischa (talk) 10:37, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

Please comment on BR Bullpen:Featured Article Candidates/Max Scherzer - Mischa (talk) 17:14, 5 December 2024 (UTC) --- Were you planning on updating the 2024 in Japanese Baseball with the award results? If not, I can do that. - Mischa (talk) 17:06, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

Good afternoon! You appear to be one of the Japanese baseball experts around here. I received an email from someone asking to confirm the date of death of a Japanese ballplayer. Unfortunately, the ballplayer wasn't even a professional, just an amateur who died in an unfortunate way. This is what he gave me: "Pitcher Throws Out the Batter, Then Drops Dead. Tokyo. Sept 24. A 15 year old pitcher for Kiau High School in Kyoto, fatally injured by a line drive, tossed out the batter before dying, Kyodo News Agency reported today.'…'Kenichi Okubo put one across the plate in the second inning that the young batter--name and age withheld by authorities--found to his liking an smashed back to the pitcher' box.'...'The. ball struck Okubo in the pit of his stomach, but he picked it up from the ground and tossed it to first base, beating the runner and ending the inning.'...'Then Okubo fell to the ground dead.'...'Kyoto University is making a complete postmortem." The article was written September 24, but he is wondering when the person actually died. I was curious if you'd could shed any insight into this? Thank you! Alex (talk) 21:46, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
