Clay Dailey
- Born ~1894
- Died May 23 1921 in Frankfort, KY, USA
Biographical Information[edit]
Clay Dailey went to Spring Training with the minor league Louisville Colonels of the American Association in 1920, but was optioned to the Norfolk Mary Janes before the season. Upset at not making the Louisville roster he refused to report to Norfolk. He fell ill in 1921 and began suffering mentally as a result. Dailey was also apparently depressed that the Colonels cut him from the roster before the 1920 season. On May 23, 1921, after not playing baseball at all, Dailey's parents became worried after the neighbors reported hearing gunshots, and they organized a search party. They found Clay Dailey dead next to a cave with multiple gunshot wounds and a pistol next to him.
