Funny Letters[edit]

To create the accents, you hold down the <Alt> key (there's one on either side of the space bar) and type in the three-digit code for the accent on the keyboard (please note that the number keys at the top of the keyboard will not work for this). Try this, and if you can't get it to work, at least you have all the accents in one place to copy from.  :-)
  • 128 – Ç 129 – ü 130 – é
  • 131 – â 132 – ä 133 – à
  • 134 – å 135 – ç 136 – ê

Trivia[edit]

I think it just depends if someone checks their email quickly after the question comes in when it's an easier trivia question. Sometimes by the time I see the question, they already have the next question up. I usually don't get the harder ones. - --Mischa (talk) 17:52, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Good question. And you got the Dan Wilson before anyone else. I had a couple ideas for themes but haven't suggested them; with my batting average on these questions, I doubt they'd take my suggestions. - Mischa (talk) 21:18, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

I was thinking about that as well. I have no problem with not doing anything. I was just curious. I guess the reason why there's no list here already is to avoid that potential can of worms. Cmcgill (talk) 22:46, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

With your comment about checking US newspapers on Talk:Luis Fierro, I wondered - do any US papers list rosters for the 1959 Pan American Games? We're missing several countries. The US has hosted so few international tournaments. - Mischa (talk) 13:25, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Delete a file[edit]

I enhanced the quality of File:Frank Buttery.jpg, but there was a watermark from the program I used that blended in with the image that I didn't notice until now, so I just cropped it out and reuploaded it but it would only let me upload it as a png file so thats the new file thats in the page now. Cody n Nelli (talk) 05:26, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

I just used a program to enhance the quality of the original image, it had the watermark from the app I used. I don't think that should effect the liscensing of the picture itself since its just the same image that was already there before which is public domain

Remembering it as a nickname is one thing but having literally source I seen mention him long after his career ended (including one's published this year even) only list him under that name feels wrong. I don't think I even knew what his actual first name was until now in fact. Cody n Nelli (talk) 22:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Could you help me with this one?[edit]

I have been trying to find some info to expand the article we have about Anthony McQuide but have been unable to find anything except this article from mlb.com saying that he died in 1867 https://www.mlb.com/news/first-baseball-card-magnolia-invitation-peck-and-snyder. Since you have a newspaper archive subscription could you help me find a bit more on this one? I tried using the free library of congress paper archive to find something but couldnt get anything. The Goth Kids (talk) 20:57, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Hm, thats interesting. Mlb.com clearly lists his name as being Anthony McQuide in the article, yet when I google the name even, the first things that come up are a few vague mentions on baseball sites, yet I found on the Ars Longa card site, there appears to be a player named Andrew McQuade, who supposedly played for the team, so it's likely that could have been his real name, and Anthony McQuide is a name that came to be from stuff getting lost in time. I think if you search that name then maybe we can find something. I am also wondering, how did mlb.com get the information that he supposedly died in 1867, while using the possible misidentified name of a person that does not appear to exist in the article? The Goth Kids (talk) 05:13, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

That is really strange. I was able to find mentions of the team in a few papers, they were one of the better known pre-mlb teams too, but just nothing about this player in particular. Baseball got less coverage in the 1840s-50s but it was covered quite a bit in the 1860s usually in papers from around the area the teams played in only. It seems really odd that mlb.com would publish an article mentioning him as well as a date of death that they seemingly pulled out of thin air. Maybe try to look for any kind of box scores for the Unions of Lansingburgh from 1860 to 1866 and see. If nothing, then I'm stumped. The Goth Kids (talk) 05:43, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

I see, I'm still learning about that. I want to keep everything documented because I want to keep as much info about these teams as possible. I can continue to do this or occasionally do it and work on other stuff too, but ultimately, I'm gonna feel like garbage if I spend a long time on this then just end up having it all deleted or something. Unless there is a better way to document all this on here in a more effective way. The Goth Kids (talk) 20:34, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

I will wait to edit or add on anything else to these types of pages until I am told anything further. I see that the team pages themselves have a year by year record in them so maybe we don't need an individual page for that. But I don't know I want to include lists of who played for each team somehow.

Well, this certainly is a lot of work, but I will continue onward with it. I know that there is more notable teams, but b ref already tracks major colleges and I want to include info on the smaller ones like mine, since they get less coverage, I want to preserve the information forever so it doesnt get lost. I will continue to add past seasons for all college teams, but I noticed b ref began including them long after they were founded so I also wanna include the info on those non-included seasons of major colleges too because theyre not documented on b ref. I hate to admit I'm beginning to get a bit bored with what i am doing right now because i'm basically just copying down the info thats already readily avaliable on b ref rather than "discovering" as i like to do with my research. SInce b ref includes those college season records, can the bullpen just have the non-included stuff? I mean we have tons of pages for like the German League and Pre-MLB and all that stuff so we definitely do include records of the more obscure stuff, which I like about this site. The Goth Kids (talk) 18:20, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

I guess not. Would we be able to include a year-by-year record for the lesser known colleges though? Like on the page how the big ones have it The Goth Kids (talk) 19:04, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

And regarding seasons by year, I don't see much for minor league seasons even, so do we need to keep the 1992 Kinston Indians page (which I did not create) if we are gonna junk these ones? The Goth Kids (talk) 19:06, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

I suppose I could add the rosters by year to the teams pages potentially like I did on the Penn-State Wilkes-Barre page. It won't take nearly as much effort as making indivdual pages for each season. If anything, doing that will be more easy than doing a year by year roster section for minor league teams for example since guys are constantly being called up and sent down. The Goth Kids (talk) 19:11, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Since the yearly records already exist on the team's page, I dont think each individual season needs an individual page, rather, I can just add the yearly rosters in a sub section on the pages. That way all the information will be on the one page

Franchise Players[edit]

I can update it after each season, but not on a day-to-day basis. -Umbreon9 (talk) 20:45, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
