From BR Bullpen

Welcome to BR Bullpen! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Jeff (talk) 22:07, 4 August 2013 (EDT)

Now that the minor league no-hitter list is done, I wonder if you'd want to tackle a minor league Triple Crown list for our Triple Crown page. I found this website but I think it's a bit dated and don't know how complete it is. - --Mischa (talk) 11:09, 1 October 2013 (EDT)

Sure, I'll work on it. I'll start with what's on that page, and see if I can find any others.

No idea on the email updates; never tried using the feature. I'll check with Sean. - --Mischa (talk) 08:10, 7 October 2013 (EDT)

Thanks for uploading all of those pictures. A couple of small things: When you add a picture to the initial section of a player page, you should insert the template {{clear}} below the link for the BR page, as it ensures that the first section (Biographical Information) starts below the picture and not in the middle of it. Also, when you upload the image of a baseball card, add to the file description the set and number of the card (e.g. 1980 Topps Nr. 123) and the template {{BaseballCard}}. --Philippe (talk) 08:23, 10 October 2013 (EDT)

If a page has --Mischa (talk) 09:32, 14 October 2013 (EDT)

, you don't need to add |Doe,John after Category:Minor League Managers. Hope that makes sense; let me know if not - --Mischa (talk) 09:32, 14 October 2013 (EDT)

I added the variable you asked for. Let me know if it works.Admin (talk) 10:00, 18 October 2013 (EDT)

yeah!! Admin (talk) 16:39, 4 November 2013 (EST)

A player's page either needs the DEFAULTSORT or the |last name, first name listed after each category. If removing the latter, please add the former, ex. {{DEFAULTSORT:Henderson,Rickey}} - --Mischa (talk) 08:08, 9 December 2013 (EST)

Sorry about that. I guess I misunderstood your earlier note. I'll be more careful from now on. --Cmcgill (talk) 08:59, 9 December 2013 (EST)

I should have explained better; my apologies. - --Mischa (talk) 11:20, 9 December 2013 (EST)

Not your fault, but with your username in the middle of the post, it prevented the {{DEFAULTSORT}} from showing up. Thus, I never noticed it. --Cmcgill (talk) 14:43, 9 December 2013 (EST)

Actually, it appears that the <nowiki></nowiki> coding is needed, otherwise the {{DEFAULTSORT}} doesn't show up on the Talk page. --Cmcgill (talk) 14:46, 9 December 2013 (EST)

Here's another project for the minors - four+ HR in a game lists; SABR has one at http://sabr.org/research/four-homers-one-game - --Mischa (talk) 12:22, 17 December 2013 (EST)

That's a good idea. There are lots of lists created by SABR members that would be good to add, with permission of course. Title ideas? Minor League Four HR Games? --Cmcgill (talk) 12:24, 17 December 2013 (EST)

Minor League Games with Four or more Home Runs, maybe? - --Mischa (talk) 12:32, 17 December 2013 (EST)

It's a bit tricky isn't it, because you want to convey the idea that it's by one person. Minor Leaguers with Four or more Home Runs in a Game? That's a bit wordy though. --Cmcgill (talk) 13:07, 17 December 2013 (EST)

We have lists with more complicated names (ex. List of first players to sign with a MLB team from different countries) - --Mischa (talk) 13:34, 17 December 2013 (EST)

You should use Image tags when uploading images. I think all of the ones you're doing meet the PD-USA category, but am not 100% certain. - --Mischa (talk) 13:09, 3 January 2014 (EST)

What is the source(s) for the recent changes to birth/death places and dates? The Bullpen pages no longer match the main BR pages. --Jeff (talk) 19:17, 28 February 2014 (EST)

It's been my job for the past 7 or 8 years to update the Bullpen based on reports of SABR's Biographical Research Committee. This involves not just changing the player pages, but all the linked pages, such as cities, calendar, etc. and inserting references when available. Kindly let me continue with this project; there are many others to take on if you wish. --Philippe (talk) 03:56, 1 March 2014 (EST)

Our practice has been to have the births and deaths categories at the end of the categories list - FYI. - --Mischa (talk) 12:12, 12 May 2014 (EDT)

I've spun off the Minor League Perfect Games into its own page, as it was getting quite lengthy on the main perfect game page. Hope you don't mind. --Philippe (talk) 04:17, 25 August 2014 (EDT)

That is really weird. I just went to add the 9 (number of innings) to the Jack Frey no-hitter. I wasn't deleting anything. I undid the changes. Sorry about that. -- Jackmo77 (Jackmo77) 10:27, 15 March 2016 (EST)

Milwaukee Creams[edit]

I did a superficial clean-up to make our various pages about early Milwaukee teams consistent ( a number teams were listed under two different names). Now that this has been done, you can make the type of correction you mentioned on my talk page. Just make sure you change all three related pages so that they agree with eachother: the team page, the league page and the Milwaukee, WI city page. --Philippe (talk) 10:10, 13 January 2015 (EST) that

On the issue of 19th century team names, I'm not sure there is a definitive answer. before marketing considerations came into play decades later, team nicknames were informal, and used mainly by sportswriters. Often, a team would be known simultaneously by a number of different names, so there is no right answer. Use the better researched and more recent sources, but just make sure we maintain some consistency. --Philippe (talk) 03:09, 14 January 2015 (EST)

Alphabetical Listing of Players[edit]

We have a "contributor" who is making many edits to the pages of minor league teams and managers, which are very hit or miss in their accuracy. Thanks for the help in double checking those edits. --Jeff (talk) 17:11, 16 April 2015 (EDT)

1911 Kapitalists[edit]

BR minors lists the team as the Kapitalists, while the Kapitalists' page already included 1911 (which then made 1911 duplicated), so somebosdy else had already seen Kapitalists for 1911. So I checked and the Kearney Daily Hub referred to the team as the Kapitalists in 1911 example from May example from July --Jeff (talk) 18:15, 20 October 2015 (EDT)

Given your interest in the minor leagues, would you be interested in working on the PCL seasons that take up a good chunk of the top 100 "most wanted pages". For an idea of what we've done, see 2011 International League season - a little info (or a lot) about that season, standings, playoffs, league leaders, All-Star team (if one was named). No pressure to take this project on. - --Mischa (talk) 14:19, 5 January 2016 (EST)

Mark Persails[edit]

I found several articles referring to a no-hitter by Mark Persails for Atlantic City in July 2006. Was this later ruled not to be a no-hitter or was it just overlooked on your list (I imagine indy league info is harder to track down)? - --Mischa (talk) 08:12, 15 April 2016 (EDT)

Benders! (pg. 36-38) says that Ted Corbitt threw a 11-inning no-hitter 7/14/1910 for the South Bend Bronchos of the Central League against the Zanesville Potters. The game was called at 0-0 after 11 innings due to darkness. - --Mischa (talk) 20:11, 10 May 2016 (EDT)

Jewish Players[edit]

I don't know if anyone will agree with me, but I'm gonna offer my 2 cents on a Jewish Players category. 1) I don't know if it would be possible to a. be 100% accurate in tagging players or b. be 100% inclusive in tagging them all. 2) I think it opens up a whole can of worms .. how many other categories would need to be created (by religion and/or ethnicity), all with the same two caveats I referenced in point 1. But that's just my thinking. I could be wrong Jeff (talk) 22:30, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

As a Jewish guy, I think such a category would be very hard to do. What about people who identify as Jewish but are not considered Jewish by halacha (Jewish law)? Or players born to a Jewish mother but practice another religion and do not identify as Jewish (ex. Lou Boudreau)? If a player converted like Elliott Maddox or Steve Yeager, would it matter if they convert under halacha or under a Reform rabbi? Even if it was a list page rather than a category, allowing for multiple headers (like Cuban Defectors), there's not enough information out there to know where to place many people. - Mischa (talk) 13:08, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Never hurts to bring up a new possible category. If you have other suggestions, please put them out there! - Mischa (talk) 13:28, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Definitely not a category. Possibly a list, but I agree that there would be numerous caveats. But it's definitely worth noting on individual pages where relevant. Philippe (talk) 13:42, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

No-hitters[edit]

See what I've done on the Minor League No-Hitters 2020-2029 page. Could you do that on the other pages, as it looks a lot better than a long, ungainly URL. Philippe (talk) 15:06, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
