Biographical Information[edit]

Thibault Mercadier has pitched in France and the independent leagues as well as for the French national team.

He came to the Cleveland area when he was 8 years old and discovered baseball, continuing with the sport when his family returned to France three years later. [1] Signing with the Rouen Huskies, he made it to the French Division I in 2019 at age 16, throwing a scoreless inning. [2] He had two saves and a 5.11 ERA in '21. [3] He allowed five runs in three innings in the 2021 U18 European Championship but beat Lithuania. [4] During the 2021 European Champions Cup, he lost to Heidenheim Heideköpfe and Julius Spann, posting a 3.71 ERA for the event. [5]

Returning to the US for junior college, he went 0-2 with a 11.47 ERA in 2021-2022. [6] He beat Zane Hendrickx and the Hoboken Pioneers in the 2022 Confederation Cup, allowing one run in six innings for the champion Huskies. [7] In the '22 French season, the right-hander allowed 10 runs (7 earned) in 5 innings. [8] Finally that year, he debuted for the French senior team, in the 2022 European Championship Qualifier, but did not get into a game. [9]

Mercadier's second season of junior college was even worse at 0-2 with a 16.11 ERA and 3.11 WHIP. [10] He was 0-2 with a 7.11 ERA for Rouen in the 2023 European Champions Cup, losing to the Bonn Capitals' Sascha Koch and the Paderborn Untouchables' Florian Seidel, the latter coming in the 7th/8th place game. He tied Pim Vijfvinkel for the Cup lead in losses, was second in walks (one behind Quentin Moulin) and tied Naut Kragt for 10th in strikeouts. [11] In the 2023 U23 European Championship, he allowed four runs in two innings in a loss to Italy's Mattia Sireus. [12] In the French Division I, he was 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 28 K in 26 1/3 IP, showing good strides. [13] He was back with France for the 2023 European Championship, his first European Championship. He was excellent over two outings. Against Ukraine, he closed out a combined shutout with Nathan Laot and Robyn Clara. He retired Illia Velykyi, hit Viacheslav Babii, struck out Denys Brechko and Dmitro Limarenko his first inning then went 1-2-3 against Kostiantyn Boiko, Oleksandr Halushka and Bohdan Lucheiko, striking out the latter two. He got the win over Ihor Lukin. In the 7th/8th place game, he helped France finish 8 spots ahead of their prior Euros appearance, following Ben Couvreur and Laot to the mound. He went 1-2-3 again, this time against Daniel Johnson, Victor Wahlberg and Philip Gajzler (who had been playing in the European Championship before Mercadier was even born). [14]

For 2024, he signed with the Québec de Capitales, one of two French players in the Frontier League that year, alongside Léo Jiminian. [15]
