Biographical Information[edit]

Sascha Koch has pitched in Germany.

Koch participated in the MLB European Academy in 2013, and its successor (the MLB European Elite Camp) in 2014. He allowed 3 runs in 7 innings in the 2013 European Junior Championship, getting a no-decision versus France. Making his Bundesliga-1 debut in 2014 at age 16, he was 5-0 with a 2.00 ERA for the Bonn Capitals, tying Daniel Rahn for 5th in the northern Bundesliga-1 in wins.

In the 2015 European Junior Championship, he had a 1.64 ERA and fanned 19 in 11 innings but got two no-decisions. He was 4th in the event in ERA and third in strikeouts. He was excellent for Bonn in 2015 at 5-0, 0.75 with 47 K, 7 BB and 20 H in 36 IP. He won the ERA title (.40 ahead of Chris Mezger), tied Greg Hendrix for 4th in wins, was second in WHIP (behind Mezger), was second in lowest average (.157, .012 behind Wilson Lee) and was third in lowest opponent OPS (418, behind Lee and Mezger).

He made his first appearance on the German national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He was their youngest pitcher and second-youngest player; Nadir Ljatifi was about three months younger. Koch did not get into a game, one of three pitchers they did not use; the others were fellow youngster Lucas Dickman and Lukas Steinlein.
