Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Mezger has pitched in the US, France and Germany.

Mezger had a 7-2, 1.50 record as a high school senior, striking out 60 and walking 13 in 58 innings. He struggled as a college freshman, giving up 11 hits and 6 runs in 6 2/3 IP. He allowed one earned run in two innings as a sophomore. As a junior, he went 4-2 with a 4.56 ERA. His senior year at USC, he was 2-0 with a 5.68 ERA and .336 opponent average in 21 outings. He then pitched for the Roswell Invaders, fanning 12 in 6 2/3 shutout innings over three games in 2011, going 1-0.

For 2012, Chris signed with France's Rouen Huskies. He played a role in helping Rouen make it to the Final Four in the 2012 European Cup, posting their lowest ERA in the Rotterdam round of the Cup (0.87). He fanned 9 and allowed 3 runs (one earned) in 7 2/3 IP in an upset over DOOR Neptunus before manager Keino Perez got the save. He also relieved Perez in a crucial win over the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg, whiffing four in 2 2/3 shutout innings of relief with one hit and no walks. The giant righty was 5th in the Rotterdam phase in ERA and tied Dushan Ruzic and Mike Bolsenbroek for second in whiffs, one behind Spaniard Jorge Balboa.

In 2014, he was a member of the Solingen Alligators who won the German Bundesliga I title. He threw 150 pitches in 9 innings (11 K, 13 H, 1 BB, 4 R) in a duel with Jason Daniels of his old Rouen club in the 2014 European Cup before Harry Glynne relieved; Solingen lost 8-7 in extra innings. In the Bundesliga regular season, he was 10-0 with a 1.06 ERA, 112 K, 14 BB and 1 HR in 76 1/3 IP. He led the northern Bundesliga-1 in ERA by .97, strikeouts (by 30) and wins (two ahead of teammate Glynne) as well as WHIP (.89, .11 ahead of Trevor Caughey) and lowest opponent average (.197). He lost the MVP award to fellow American and Solingen Alligator and offensive star Tanner Leighton. He fell to 4-2, 2.66 in the postseason but still tied Luke Sommer for the most wins and led in whiffs (45) as the Alligators won it all.

In the 2015 European Cup, he allowed 4 runs in 3 innings in a loss to the L&D Amsterdam Pirates and 3 runs in 3 1/3 IP in relief of André Hughes in a 18-10 defeat at the hands of Unipol Bologna.
