Biographical Information[edit]

Ihor Lukin has played for the Ukrainian national team.

He was 0 for 1 in the 2017 European Championship U23. [1] He played one game in the 2019 B-Level European Championship but did not bat. [2] He pitched two shutout innings in the 2019 European Championship U23 and was 1 for 2 with a run. [3] In the 2021 European Championship Qualifier, he backed up Kostiantyn Chukhas at 2B, going 2 for 4 with two runs. He also took the mound, beating Serbia with one run in eight innings. Ukraine won the event for a spot in the 2021 European Championship. [4] He hit .364/.462/.818 in the 2021 European Championship U23 and got rocked by the Czechs (7 R, 6 Er in 2 1/3 IP). [5]

In the 2021 European Championship, he backed up Dmytro Limarenko in right field, Kostiantyn Boiko in left field and Roman Boiko at second base. His first European Championship game as the DH versus Croatia. He was 0 for 4 against Andrew Jones and Antonio Horvatić. Against Russia, he relieved Mykola Liakhovetskyi in the 2nd with one out, the bases loaded and a 10--0 deficit. He gave up a Maxim Monakhov sacrifice fly then retired David Castillo. Over the next five innings, he allowed 11 hits but held Russia to four runs, a big improvement over his predecessor, striking out Yan Pérez and Maksim Makarkin along the way. Danyil Khodakovskyi relieved him in the 7th. His first RBI came against Slovakia; After replacing Limarenko in right field, he came up in the bottom of the 9th with a 4-4 tie, the bases loaded and no outs. He drew a walk from Martin Lukačka to force in Chukhas with the winner and eliminate any chance of having to requalify. In the 13th/14th place game against Greece, he started at 2B and went 2 for 3 with a walk, handling eight chances error-free. His hits were off Daniel Gosselin and Yanni Orfanidis in Ukraine's 5-4 win. [6]
