Biographical Information[edit]

Mykola Liakhovetskyi has pitched for the Ukrainian national team.

He was 0-2 with a 8.31 ERA in the 2013 European Junior Championship, with the highest ERA of any qualifier; Dmitry Shtykher was next at 7.36. [1] In the 2014 European Championship U21, he was 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA, losing to the Czech team and going 1 for 9 with a double, 2 walks, one run and 2 RBI. [2] He had nearly identical numbers (0-1, 4.76) in the 2015 European Cup, losing to Heidenheim Heideköpfe and Aaron Dunsmore. [3] He was excellent in the 2016 European Championship U21 against Israel, allowing three hits and one run in eight innings for the win. [4] For Elizavegrad, he allowed 3 runs in 5 1/3 IP in the 2016 CEB Cup. [5]

His debut for Ukraine's senior national team was in the 2021 European Championship. He pitched one game but had a rough time of it. Starting against Russia, he began well enough by retiring David Castillo and striking out Denis Leonov but Geidys Soler and Yunior Valiente both singled, then Yan Pérez hit into an error to score a run. Viacheslav Vasilev hit a 3-run homer before Anton Trusov grounded out. The 2nd inning was worse - Maksim Makarkin singled, Maxim Monakhov walked, Castillo reached on an error and Leonov walked to force in a run. Liakhovetskyi got Soler on a liner but Valiente hit a 3-run double. Pérez walked, Vasilev singled for his 4th RBI then Liakhovetskyi hit both Trusov and Makarkin to force in a 9th run. Ihor Lukin relieved and let two inherited runners score to give Mykola 11 runs (5 earned) in 1 1/3 IP. In a high-scoring event, he only tied Karlo Kos for the 8th-worst ERA (33.75) and the 3rd-highest on Ukraine (Sergii Shtapura and Andrii Boiko were higher). He tied Alex Gounaris for the 4th-most runs allowed. [6]
