Denis Leonov has pitched for the Russian national team.

In the 2009 World Youth Championship, Denis was atrocious with 8 hits, 5 walks and 13 runs (7 earned) in 1 2/3 IP. He pitched 1 1/3 innings for the North Stars Moscow in the 2011 European Cup, with two walks and one run. In the 2011 European Junior Championship, Leonov pitched well in a loss to Italy and beat the Ukraine. He fanned 15 and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) in 11 innings for the event, while also going 4 for 9 offensively. He finished third in the tourney in whiffs and sixth in ERA.

Leonov continued to shine in the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers. Russia's youngest player, he tossed a 2-hit, no-walk, 9-strikeout shutout against Belarus as Russia won a spot in the 2012 European Championship. He led the qualifier in strikeouts and ERA to win Best Pitcher honors.
