Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Maitland has played in the Bundesliga and for the British national team.

Maitland was 0-2 with a 20.77 ERA in two starts for the 2007 Tübingen Hawks and was 2 for 10 with a run, backing up fellow British national team member Alex Malihoudis in CF. [1] Playing for the Bucknell Blazers, he led the British National League in K/9 (12.0) while also hitting two grand slams. [2]

In the 2016 European Championship, he debuted against the champion Dutch national team, closing out a 11-1 loss. Relieving Elliot Berger with two on and two out, he struck out former minor leaguer Gianison Boekhoudt. Against Russia, he relieved Nateshon Thomas in the 6th with a 4-0 deficit. He struggled, giving up a homer to Daniil Khomyakov. Maxim Monakhov singled and Alexey Kobrinets reached on an error. He retired Mikhail Korovin but plunked Alexandr Sapronov to load the bases. Sergey Kudryashov was retired on an infield fly but he walked Frank Bulte to force in a run. Ben Pearson relieved and let the inherited runners score, handing Maitland the loss to Denis Leonov. His last game, he replaced Phil Owen in the 6th with a 16-2 lead over Greece. He struck out Andy Orfanakos, walked Jim Lomis, struck out Alex Lomis and got Jamie Lekas on a fly. Britain scored three in the 7th then he completed the mercy-rule win (and got the decision) with a scoreless 7th. He began by plunking Deeno Mandis and walking Angelos Argyropoulos but Nikos Lekkas flew out and Dionysios Marathonitis and Jordan Thliveris both hit into force-outs. He tied Conrad Cornell for the team lead in pitching appearances. [3]

In British leagues through 2020, he was 17-26 with a 6.73 ERA and hit .255/.429/.361. [4]
