Biographical Information[edit]

Dionysios Marathonitis was on the Greek national team in the 2016 European Championship. He played two games. Against Belgium, he relieved Alex Gounaris in the 2nd with a 5-0 deficit. He retired Benjamin Dille and Thomas De Wolf but then ran into trouble. He walked Hans Heyrman, gave up a single to Jamie Verheyleweghen, walked Rob Lewis, hit Lucas Rizzi to force in a run and walked Benjamin Goffaux to force in another. Yves Poesmans singled in two then Sam Buelens walked. Marathonitis hit Dille, then Jim Lomis relieved and let all the inherited runners score to give Dionysios 8 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning. The only higher ERAs in the event came from infinite marks by teammate Angelos Argyropoulus and Kiril Chermoshentsev. His other game, he pinch-hit for Gounaris in the 7th, down 19-2 against Great Britain. Facing Matt Maitland, he reached on a force.
