1983 Asian Championship
The 1983 Asian Championship was the 12th Asian Championship. It was held from September 3 through September 13, 1983 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. It was a qualifier for the 1984 Olympics; the top 3 teams from the event earned spots in the Olympics.
South Korea went 4-0 in the preliminary round and 1-2 in the final round for 5 wins total.
Chinese Taipei went 3-1 in the first round, then 2-1 in the final round for 5 wins. They had the tourney MVP, SS Fu-Lien Wu, who went 13 for 29. I-Tseng Lin led with 2 home runs. Other players included Taigen Kaku and Wen-Sheng Lu.
Japan was 2-2 in the preliminaries and then swept their way through the finals to complete the 3-way tie for first.
Australia went 1-6, beating only the Philipines.
Philippines was 0-4 in the preliminary round and was the only team left out of the finals.
