1991 Asian Championship
The 1991 Asian Championship was the 16th Asian Championship. It was the first time that China hosted the event, which was held from September 15 through September 23, 1991 in Beijing. The top two teams qualified for spots in the 1992 Olympics, the first time baseball would be a Medal event in the Olympics.
Japan won Gold to move on to the Olympics. Yasunori Takami won MVP honors while Masanori Sugiura was named the one of the best two pitchers.
Chinese Taipei took home a Silver and also advanced to the Olympics. Chien-Fu Kuo Lee was named one of the best two pitchers in the tournament.
South Korea won Bronze, missing out on the Summer Games.
Australia placed 4th, but was the only team to beat Japan.
People's Republic of China was 5th.
Philippines finished sixth.
Guam pulled up the rear.
