1987 Asian Championship
The 1987 Asian Championship was held from August 24 through August 31, 1987 in Japan. It was a qualifying event for the 1988 Olympics; South Korea had already earned a spot as the Olympic host and Japan had earned a spot for hosting the Asian Championships. As Asia had 3 spots in the Olympics, only 1 spot was up for grabs.
Chinese Taipei won Gold with a 5-1 record. Ping-Yang Huang won MVP honors.
Japan claimed a Silver Medal by going 5-1.
South Korea won Bronze at 4-2
Guam was a surprising 4th, their best finish ever, at 3-3.
Australia also went 3-3 to rank 5th
People's Republic of China was 6th at 1-5
India was last at 0-6.
