1997 Asian Championship
The 1997 Asian Championship was held from May 23 through June 2, 1997 at Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium in Taiwan.
South Korea won Gold for the first time since 1975. Their staff included future major leaguers Jae-weong Seo and Sun-woo Kim.
Japan took home Silver. They had future MLB players Kenshin Kawakami, Koji Uehara and Kosuke Fukudome on their team.
Chinese Taipei won Bronze. Ying-Chieh Kao managed them.
People's Republic of China finished fourth. Zhanpeng Wang was named the best left-handed pitcher of the event.
Philippines placed fifth.
Thailand took last.
