Biographical Information[edit]

Johannes Krumm has played in the Bundesliga-1 and for the German national team.

Krumm debuted in 2007 for the Gauting Indians at age 15. He went 0 for 2 at the plate and allowed five runs in one inning, overmatched at his young age. [1] The next year, he was 0-1 with a 11.42 ERA and went 0 for 12. [2] In the 2009 European Junior Championship, he was 0 for 2 for Germany. [3] He did not play in the Bundesliga-1 that year.

He resurfaced in 2012 with the Heidenheim Heideköpfe. He backed up Philip Schulz at 2B and Peter Dankerl at 3B, hitting .240/.333/.240 and fielding .935. He had one save and a 3.38 ERA. [4] In '13, he mostly pitched and did very well (4-0, 2 Sv, 2.06) while hitting .179/.220/.214 as a backup to Schulz. He was 3rd in the Bundesliga-1 South in ERA (behind former US pros Luke Sommer and Mike Bolsenbroek), tied Justin Kuehn and Matt Kemp for 3rd in saves and 6th in lowest BB rate (.31 BB/IP). [5]

In 2014, he was 4-2 with a save and a 3.39 ERA while going 4 for 11 with a double at the plate. He was 8th in ERA, between Christian Decher and Lukas Steinlein. [6] In the 2015 European Cup, he got the win over France's Templiers de Sénart and allowed one unearned run in 5 innings while going 2 for 13. [7] In the Bundesliga-1 that year, he split time between 1B (behind Robert Gruber) and 3B (behind Jay Pecci) as well as pitching. He hit .291/.364/.442, fielded .938 and was 7-1 with 2 saves but a 5.89 ERA. He was 7th in the league in wins and tied for 4th in saves (with Gruber, Lucas Dickman and Tim Stahlmann). He was 0-2 with a 6.43 ERA in the postseason but Heidenheim won the title. [8]

Johannes had 3 hits and 3 RBI against Neptunus in the opener of the 2016 European Champions Cup and finished at .250/.333/.250 by going hitless in the other games. [9] In the German season, he took over first base from Gruber and batted .246/.306/.323 while posting a 6-4, 5.10 record with one save. He tied Hagen Rätz, Michael Torrealba and Clayton Voechting for 6th in victories. [10]

He made Germany's squad for the 2016 European Championship. He got to pitch two games. Against Great Britain, he relieved Sascha Koch with a 2-1 deficit in the 4th and went 1-2-3 against Zach Wiley, Maikel Azcuy and Spencer Kreisberg. In the 5th, he gave up a hit to Callum Murphy, fanned Nateshon Thomas, allowed a Richard Klijn single and walked Sam Wiley to load the bases. Maurice Wilhelm relieved to escape the jam and Germany would rally to win. Krumm got the victory against Russia, working the first 5 innings of a 16-4 rout (6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) before Kevin Trisl closed it out. [11]

During 2017, he was 7-1 with a 4.24 ERA and hit .237/.297/.288 as the backup at 1B. He tied Riley Barr and Jonathan Eisenhuth for 5th in the league in wins. He only pitched one playoff game (0 ER in 4 IP) as Heidenheim won it all; as the start was in their first playoff game, he was presumably injured for the rest of their run. [12] He was 2 for 5 in the 2018 European Champions Cup. [13] He did not pitch in the '18 Bundesliga-1 season and batted .227/.280/.409. [14] He went 0 for 3 in the 2019 CEB Cup. [15] In the '19 season, he hit .218/.288/.376.
