Galveston, TX
Galveston is located in southeastern Texas, on an island of the same name along the shore of the Gulf of Mexico, across an inlet from Texas City, TX. At one time the largest city in the state, it was leveled in 1900 by a hurricane that caused some 8,000 deaths. It has since been displaced as the state's main port city by Houston, TX, located 25 miles to the northwest,.
